Wiseman and O’Toole crowned Champions at The Sagamore Club

Apr 9, 2024

Timothy Wiseman notched a victory in the PGA Tournament of Champions at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville on April 8 and 9. Of the two rounds, Wiseman finished with a two stroke lead. Mike O’Toole finished six strokes ahead and took home the title in the senior division. The tournament featured a total solar eclipse in Noblesville during the Indiana PGA’s first event of the season.

Timothy Wiseman of Old Capital Golf Club closed out the first day of the tournament with a one-stroke lead over Vince Drahman of Old Oakland Golf Club, the 2023 defending champion. Jamie Broce of Indiana University GC, and Craig Isabel of Stonehenge GC were three strokes shy of the lead.

Paired together for the final round Broce, Drahman and Wiseman were within 3-strokes of each other for much of the day.

“I knew it was gonna be a mentally taxing day,” Wiseman said. “I knew Vince was gonna be right there. I knew Jamie was going to be right there.”

Wiseman also mentioned the effect weather had on his play.

“I knew there were going to be ebbs and flows to the round in the day, especially in the windy conditions. So no matter what happened, I knew I just had to stay patient and just stick to my game and hope for the best,” he said.

Wiseman is the 2023 Indiana PGA Player of the year. Of the 45 events he played that season, 35 were top 10 finishes. He earned over 1,700 points to his card by placing first five times, second nine times and third six times last year.

Starting out strong with his first PGA section win, Wiseman hopes to make the cuts at the 2024 PGA Professional Championship at the end of this month.

“Hopefully [I’ll] find myself in that top 20 at the end of the four days,” Wiseman added. The PGA Professional Championship is the largest all-professional national championship, with a 312-player field from all 41 PGA sections.

Second place was a tie between Broce and Mike Asbell of Asbell Golf Performance. Asbell and Broce finished +1 for the tournament, two strokes behind Wiseman.

In the Senior Division, 2020 Indiana PGA Senior Player of the Year Mike O’Toole of Noblesville came through with rounds of 69 and 72. He finished with an overall score of -3, six strokes ahead of runner-up Quinn Griffing of Fort Wayne.

O’Toole remained steady through the tournament with 4 birdies during each round and a total of 4 bogeys.

“I relied on my short game because it’s early [in the season],” O’Toole said. “I did chunk a lot of shots today. My short game saved me probably about five holes. I got up and down or could have been definitely bogey or double bogey,” said O’Toole.

Griffing finished +3 for the tournament with an impressive showing of 7 birdies and 28 pars in his round.
