Werner’s Home Course Advantage Pays Off at Mid-Am

Aug 8, 2013

Dyer’s Terry Werner used his knowledge of Briar Ridge CC to
his advantage today at the IGA Mid-Amateur Championship. Werner fired a 3-under-par 69 which gave him a one shot lead over Decatur’s Keith Blythe heading into tomorrow.

“It’s honestly a little bit nerve wracking playing in an
event at your home course,” Werner said.
“I play about 40 rounds a year here and it definitely helps knowing the course, but there’s a bit of pressure to play well knowing people expect you to.”

Werner’s round consisted of four birdies coming on the par
4, 8th hole, the par 4, 11th hole, the par 5, 12th
hole, and the par 4, 14th hole.
He only carded one bogey today coming on the par 5, 15th
hole.

“I was hitting the ball really well today,” Werner said. “I hope to keep it going tomorrow and make as many good swings as I can.”

Werner won the Indiana PGA Northern Open in ’97, which was
also held at Briar Ridge CC, and hopes to add this tournament to his list of
achievements.

Williamsburg’s Derek Moore and Fishers’ Tim Cobb are currently tied for third after
firing 1-under-par 71s.
