Vlasic and Wilson Win IGA Senior Team

Apr 18, 2014

After a triple bogey on the par-4, 3rd, first
round leaders Dave Vlasic and Cortie Wilson gave the rest of the field an
opportunity to close the gap. Terry
Werner and Skip Runnels came close with a 4-under-par finish, but just fell
short. Despite their hiccup on 3, Vlasic
and Wilson carded five birdies for a 1-under-par finish today and tournament
total of 139, 5-under-par.

“We were a little bit upset after the triple on three, but it
ended up making us focus more,” said Wilson of Portage, Ind. “We didn’t let it affect the rest of our
round.”

Heading to the 18th hole, Vlasic and Wilson knew
where they stood, just one shot ahead of Werner and Runnels. After Wilson missed his par putt, Vlasic was
faced with a tricky six footer for the win.
With a confident stroke, Vlasic converted for his second IGA Senior
victory, his first coming last year at the IGA Senior Match Play Championship. Wilson has never participated in an IGA event
before, and starts off his Indiana golf career with a win.

“It always feels good to win,” said Vlasic of Valparaiso,
Ind. “We play in these tournaments for
moments like we had on 18. It’s fun to
be in contention and to have to make a winning putt.”

Chris Decker of Fishers and teammate Rick Langdon of
Cloverdale finished alone in third with a 1-under-par finish.
