Underdogs Look for Match Play Title

Jul 24, 2013

It took 19 holes to defeat Defending Champion, Matt
Spicuzza, but Sam Hardwick was able to do so.
Seeded 32nd after winning a playoff to advance to the match
play portion of competition, Hardwick never lost control this morning, but
unfortunately did not have that same luck this afternoon.

That was one of many upsets today, and among the remaining
eight quarter finalists only three players seeded in the top ten remain.  Lapel’s Brodie Williams, who fired an
opening round of 2-under-par 70 to grab the fifth seed, defeated Tyler Davis
this morning 5 & 4 and Quentyn Carpenter this afternoon with a 2-up finish.

Williams, a recent Ball State graduate, will face Mooresville’s
Rylan Porter, the number four seed, in the quarter finals.
Stroke play medalist, Austin Crowder, was knocked out of match play this
morning by Franklin’s Tim Fish. Fish
went on to lose this afternoon to Fishers’ Todd Palmer.  Palmer will take on Derek Kundenreich of Yorktown who was seeded 7th.

Quarter final matches will begin tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. Four players will advance to the
semi-finals, which will be held immediately after.
