Two in a Row for Melton

Jul 7, 2016

Brett Melton has swept the first two Indiana PGA Tournament Series events of the season.  Melton, of the CC of Old Vincennes, carded a 4-under-par, 67 to win by one stroke today at Mystic Hills in Culver.

“It was really nothing fancy until hole 7,” Melton said of his round. “I made six pars to start the round and was fortunate enough to hole a wedge on No. 7 to kind of jumpstart the day.  I made birdie on 8 to go two, two.  That took me from even-par to 3-under in two holes."

Melton finished the front nine at 2-under par and then birdied three of the first four holes on his back to win with the same score he carded at The Hawthorns GCC back in May.

Unsure how he would play following several days of rain and July 4th festivities, there were a few things that inspired Melton to play well today.

“I stayed right here at one of the Mystic Hills cabins, so the accommodations were outstanding,” said Melton. “Pete Dye was here yesterday. It’s pretty inspirational anytime you see the designer at the course that you’re playing.”

Tim Holt of Nick's Golf Center finished second with a score of 3-under-par, 68.

Melton will look to continue his strong play at the Indiana Open at the Donald Ross Course at French Lick, which will begin on Monday.
