Brownburg’s Seth Fair was able to hold onto his lead today
at the Indiana Open Championship held at the Hawthorns G & CC, but does not
sit in alone in first. Recent Purdue
graduate, Tyler Duncan fired an impressive 5-under-par 67 today to tie Fair
heading into the final two days of competition.
“I didn’t necessarily do anything special today,” said
Duncan, of Columbus. “I hit the ball
solid all the way around and got a couple of putts to fall. I did chip in on six for birdie which I would
say was the highlight of my round.”
Duncan’s round consisted of six birdies coming on the par 4,
1st hole, the par 5, 4th hole, the par 3, 6th
hole, the par 5, 9th hole, the par 5, 11th hole, and the
3, 15th hole. His lone bogey
of the day came on the par 4, 10th hole.
“I’m excited to play with Seth tomorrow,” Duncan said. “We’ve played quite a few rounds together and
it should be fun. I hope to go out and
do the same thing tomorrow. This would
be a great tournament to win and would be an awesome start to my professional
career. I haven’t had a lot of success
yet, so this would get me moving in the right direction.”
Fair, also an aspiring tour player, got off to a great start
on his first nine holes, and turned at 4-under-par for the day.
“I got off to a really good start today and unfortunately
got a little careless coming in,” Fair said.
“I’m still happy with the position that I’m in and it should be a
comfortable round playing with Tyler.”
Fair’s round consisted of four birdies coming on holes 2, 4,
5, and 9, as well as back-to-back bogeys on holes 10 and 11 and another bogey
on hole 15.
“It would mean a lot to me to win this event,” Fair
said. “A lot of my friends are here
competing and I’ve watched so many of these good players growing up. It would be an honor to win.”
Fair, the 2010 Northern Open Champion, will play in the
final group tomorrow with Duncan, the 2011 State Am Champion, and Eric Steger,
also a State Am Champion just a year prior in 2010.
Defending Open Champion Stephen Conrad of Syracuse is just
two shots back, and will be looking to close this slight gap tomorrow.
The field was cut after today’s round to the low 70 players
and ties at 8-over-par, 152.
