Till Defeats the Pack at IGA Senior Match Play Championship

Jul 18, 2012

West Lafayette, Ind. – Fort Wayne’s Sam Till started off the day with a victory over the number one seed, Dave Williamson, at the IGA Senior Match Play Championship at Ackerman Hills Golf Club. Till defeated Williamson two and one to advance to the finals, where he faced Ron Carter, from Monticello.

“Yesterday I started striking the ball really good,” said Till. “I continued to do that today for the most part,” he added.
Till and Carter were all square through nine, and Till went on to birdie the par 4, 11th hole, and the par 5, 14th to go two up with four holes to play.
Both players got up and down on the par 3, 15th for par, and Carter’s par on 16 to Till’s bogey put Till back to only one up.
Carter then, left his tee shot short right on the par 3, 17th and missed the green once again on his chip shot, giving Till the win of the hole, as well as the match.
“I’ve won the Senior Open and the Indiana Mid-Open,” said Till. “I’ve never won a senior match play event and quite frankly I felt like I was due. Playing in 100 degree heat and winning is very satisfying to me,” he added.
This win marks Till’s first in an IGA senior amateur tournament.
