The Inaugural U.S. Adaptive Open Championship starts today (July 18th – 20th) and Indiana has three players representing, being held at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina . The event will be staged at Pinehurst Course No. 6, which was renovated by Tom Fazio and reopened in 2005.

Ever since the USGA announced this championship last year, there has been plenty of buzz and excitement surrounding the event. That is not lost on Evan Mathias, “This tournament is a breakthrough in disabled golf. I am so thankful to have this opportunity to compete with the best disabled golfers in the world.  All I can do now is do my best and hope to bring home the trophy!”

The U.S. Adaptive Open will be a 54-hole, stroke play format, with a field size of 96 players, open to males and females, and professionals or amateurs, with either sensory, physical, or intellectual impairments.

This Championship is important to Indiana Golf as we are also hosting an Adaptive Golf Championship September 16-18 at Plum Creek Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. More information will be available about this championship later this week!
