For the first time since 2004, the Age Group Championship will be returning to French Lick Resort. French Lick was the host of this event for many years, before undergoing renovations, and is excited to have the Indiana Junior Golf Program back. The event will take place July 6-7, 2016.
“It brings back a lot of memories for us of all the great junior players who participated in years past,” said Dave Harner, Director of Golf Operations at French Lick. “Some of those players have had PGA Tour and Web.com Tour careers. Those who haven’t gone on to play professionally certainly still have fond memories of the Age Group.”
The Age Group is the largest Indiana Junior Golf event with nearly 350 players. With that being said, the Championship will be utilizing all three of French Lick’s golf courses, the Pete Dye Course, the Donald Ross Course and Valley Links, totaling 45 holes. Players in the 17-18 Age Division will have the opportunity to play at least one competitive round at the Pete Dye Course.
“There are still quite a few logistical things to be worked out as far as number of players and golf courses, but we are really excited to be back at a facility that was the home of this tournament for so many years,” said Ryan Lambert, Assistant Executive Director at the Indiana Golf Office. “We think it is a great opportunity for our junior golfers to play two of the top ranked golf courses in the state of Indiana.”
The Dye Course has been host to the Senior PGA Championship, Big Ten Championships and PGA Professional National Championships. The Donald Ross Course will be hosting the Indiana PGA State Open the week following this year’s Age Group Championship.
“Hosting this event allows us to positively impact junior golf in the State of Indiana,” said Harner. “Both players and families will love being back in French Lick!”
