Carmel, Ind. – With long fescue grass guarding most fairways and a 25 mile per hour wind doing its best to push shots off-line, Tyler Merkel’s 71 at the Indiana Amateur Championship at Prairie View Golf Club seemed difficult to beat. Ball State’s Merkel surpassed the morning’s average by eight strokes, as scores continued to come in higher than anticipated. “I controlled the flight of my shots well which was important with this wind,” said Merkel. “And I kept it in the fairway which makes this course a lot easier.”
“I thought I stayed in it really well,” Mills said. “I was three over through six, but stuck it out and played one shot at a time.”
“I controlled the ball really well today,” said Terry. “I’m usually a good wind player so that worked to my advantage.”
Terry, Mills, and Merkel are all from Evansville, Ind.
