Taylor Gohn Claims Number One Seed at IWGA Match Play Champsionship

May 30, 2012

“I kept it in the fairway, which was my goal for today,” says Missouri’s number one player, Taylor Gohn. Gohn snatched the number one seed at the IWGA Match Play Championship after firing an even par 72 today. She says, “I didn’t make a lot of putts. I had 16 putts on the front nine.” Claiming her putting was not at its best today makes her 72 even more impressive. Tomorrow, Gohn faces the sixteenth seed Amy Thompson, who shot an 80 today.

Kristi Cardwell, a senior who plays for The University of Iowa, finished close behind Gohn with a 73, and has claimed the number two seed. Cardwell will play Regan Pittard tomorrow, who fired an 80 today. And last year’s defending champion, Kristtini Cain, a recent graduate from Indiana University, shot a 75 today and was seeded ninth. Cain will play the eighth seed tomorrow, Carlie Gehlhausen, who also shot a 75. The top sixteen players will face one another over the next two days in a head-to-head match play competition.
