Shane Bryant Posts 65 to Grab Two Shot Lead Heading to Final Round of Indiana Open

Jul 14, 2020

Today marked round two of the 105th Indiana Open Championship at Rock Hollow Golf Club and professional Shane Bryant of Williamsport is our new leader in the clubhouse.  Bryant carded a tremendous 7-under-par, 65 today and leads by two shots over Scott Pieri, Fort Wayne, and Eric Steger, Westfield heading to tomorrow’s final round.

“I got off to a really good start today,” said Bryant.  “I made birdie on two and had an eagle on three and the rest of the round was pretty easy going.”

Bryant adds today’s 65 to yesterday’s 69 for a 36-hole total of 10-under-par, 134.  He looks for his first Indiana Golf win tomorrow at Rock Hollow.

“My plan is to just play one shot at a time and we’ll see what happens,” said Bryant.

Pieri, who is currently 8-under-par for the tournament posted a 6-under-par, 66 today to move into tomorrow’s lead group.  With Rock Hollow’s narrow fairways, accuracy is key – which worked in Pieri’s favor the last two days.

“A course like this takes driver out of a lot of these player’s hands because they’re so long,” said Pieri.  “For me, this course sets up perfect.  I hit driver all day.”

Pieri has been at the top of the leaderboard at several Indiana Opens and State Amateur’s and looks for his first major win tomorrow.

“I’m 52, but I’m feeling good,” said Pieri.  “I always thought over the years maybe I would win an Open, but I haven’t gotten one yet.  I’m putting great, driving it close and hitting it in play.  I’m going to try to make somebody have to play good to beat me tomorrow.”

Steger is also tied for second at 8-under-par after posting 65 today.  Steger is an Indiana Amateur Champion, with a win in 2010 and looks to add the Open to his list of accomplishments.

“It would be super cool to win,” said Steger.  “My dad’s won it before and I would love to join him in doing so.  We’ve both won the [State] Am before, and it would be great to get it done tomorrow.”

Matthew Meneghetti is currently fourth at 7-under-par, and three shots out of the lead.

After today’s round the field was cut to the low 70 players, including ties at 7-over-par, 151.
