Rees and Scheibert Win Senior Team in Playoff

Apr 17, 2015

Gordie Rees, Albany, and Craig Scheibert, Carmel, posted an impressive 4-under-par today at Delaware CC during the final round of the IGA Senior Team Championship.  Their finish today gave them a 36-hole best ball total of 6-under-par, 134.  The duo finished in a tie along with teammates Skip Runnels, Richmond, and Terry Werner, Dyer, as well as George Wamsley, Monterey, and Dave Williamson, Crawfordsville.

However, at one point during their round today Rees and Scheibert were almost disqualified as a team because Rees teed off from the incorrect tee marker.

“I accidentally teed off from the wrong set of tees on the par-3, 14th and luckily Craig caught my mistake in time to tee off from the correct spot,” Rees said.  “That was the turning point in our round today because Craig hit it to about two feet and made birdie to get us to 6-under.”

From 14 on, the duo parred out solidifying their spot in the playoff.

The six-some headed to the 421 yard par-4, 1st, which proved to play difficult today.  Scheibert was the only player to hit the green, as well as the only player to make par.  His tap-in par gave he and Rees the victory.

“We’ve been close to winning before as a team, but we’ve never quite been able to put it together,” Rees said.  “This is a delightful win and we look forward to the rest of the season,” Scheibert added.

Runnels/Werner and Wamsley/Williamson finished in a tie for second.
