Amateur Peyton Snoeberger posted an impressive 4-under par, 68 today at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, Indiana, grabbing a one shot lead over Professional Seth Fair. Snoeberger looks for his first State Open victory, competing against the state’s top amateurs and professionals.
“I hit the ball really well today, hit a lot of greens, gave myself a lot of really good looks, and made quite a few putts. I had a couple bad breaks on the last few holes today, but tomorrow I am going to keep everything the same. I’ll probably go hit a few putts before I leave here and then just get some rest for tomorrow” said Snoeberger.
Fair is close to Snoeberger’s heels and looking for his second win, following his first victory back in 2013. Fair also came close to claiming the title last year, but fell short by two strokes, ultimately claiming the runner-up spot behind Michael Davan.
“It’s nice to be in position again and I would love to win again. To the green, I am doing a lot of things well, but on the greens it has been pretty bad. If I can get anything just decent on the greens tomorrow, I think I will at least give myself a chance” said Fair.
Professional’s Dave Pugh and Nels Surtani are trailing close behind Fair by only one stroke, creating a tight race for tomorrow’s title.
“I’m feeling good, hitting the ball well, and I feel like I am playing really well. I feel like I can go a lot lower but I am just leaving some shots out there. But I like the golf course and I feel like I am playing good enough to win tomorrow” said Surtani.
Pugh, who held the lead spot up for a good portion of today’s play, got into some trouble on hole five where he ricocheted his ball out of bounds, resulting in a double bogey.
“Typically we are not leaderboard watchers and tomorrow we will be. So we will probably play the front nine just as normal. And then on the back nine we will either play a little more aggressive if we have to, and if we don’t, we will stay with the same game plan” said Pugh.
