Palmer and Williams Head to Match Play Final

Jul 25, 2013

With a chip-in birdie on his 19th hole, Lapel’s
Brodie Williams grabbed his spot in the finals after defeating Fishers’ Kyle
Thomas 1-up. Williams was down three
after 14 holes, but fought back getting himself within one heading into 17.

“I knew I needed to put myself in position and hope for the
best,” Williams said.

With two birdies on 17, Williams and Thomas headed to the
par 5, 18th, Thomas with a 1-up lead.
Williams hooked his drove out of bounds left and it looked like any
chance he had of a victory was over.
Thomas stepped up to the tee and also hooked his drive left, giving
Williams a glimmer of hope. Both players
went on to hit their second tee shots and Williams found the left rough, while
Thomas hooked another ball to the left and out of bounds. Just like that, Williams found himself right
back in the match. After missing the
green on their 19th hole, the par 4, 1st, Williams
chipped in and Thomas failed to convert his birdie putt.

“I hope to play the same way tomorrow,” Williams said. “I need to continue to stay patient and just
go out and have fun.”

While this match was taking place, Avon’s Brett Widner and
Fishers’ Todd Palmer were also facing off.
Palmer got off to a very fast start this morning, and with a hole-out
for eagle on the par 4, 4th hole, Palmer saw himself with an early
3-up lead.

Widner was able
to cut the lead to one after a birdie on the par 4, 13th, but was
never able to catch Palmer.  Widner kept the match alive until 18 where Palmer defeated him 1-up.

“I got off to a good start,” Palmer said.  “I’m looking forward to tomorrow and I’m excited to be in this position.”

Williams, the fifth seed, and Palmer, the 18th seed, will battle it out for the title tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.
