O’Toole Wins Indiana PGA Championships

Sep 24, 2012

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Noblesville’s Mike O’Toole fired an impressive 3-under par, 69 today at the Indiana PGA Championships at Sycamore Hills Golf Club, and was the only player to break par.

“It was one of those rounds where I made a lot of long putts to save par,” said O’Toole.  “I made at least three twenty footers, which kept my momentum going.”
O’Toole’s round consisted of four birdies, coming on holes four, five, seven, and 18.  He only carded one bogey on the par 4, 16th hole.
His 3-under par finish was enough to grab a three shot lead over second place finishers John DalCorobbo and Chad Ayres.
“It was a nice win,” said O’Toole.  “I played against the best players in the section and we all had to qualify to be here.  The competition was about as good as it could have been and it means a lot,” he added.
Indianapolis’s DalCorobbo may not have finished where he had hoped today, but as runner-up he earned enough points today to deem him Player of the Year for the second consecutive year in a row.
“To win at age 47 and now 48 feels great,” DalCorobbo said.  “All year I knew where I stood and it is hard sometimes to not get consumed by it.  I remember being at French Lick and I was 5-over par with eleven holes to play and I worked hard to finish 8th, knowing I needed those points,” he added.
DalCorobbo’s even par finish today, and solid play all year with three second place finishes, combined with a win at The Hawthorns Golf and Country Club at the Indiana PGA Professionals Championship, earned him this honor.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to keep looking at my game and evaluating it.  I would love to go to qualifying school and make it,” DalCorobbo said.
For the PGA Senior Members, Bill Schumaker took the title after firing a 2-under par 70 this afternoon also at Sycamore Hill Golf Club.
Schumaker’s round consisted of three birdies coming on holes five, 15, and 17.  His lone bogey came on the par 4, 1st hole.
“I hit the ball really poorly today,” said Schumaker.  “I think I only hit ten greens, but I putted well and I got up-and-down a lot.  I made a couple birdies in the last few holes which definitely helped,” he added.
Schumaker is currently in first place for the Senior Player of the Year standings.  After the Senior National Championship, the award will be determined.
Tied for second in the senior division included: Scott Morris, David Carich, Quinn Griffing, and Jack Barber.
