Morris Runs Away With Senior Championship

Aug 12, 2014

Scott Morris was on fire
today at Ulen CC during round two of the Indiana PGA Senior Championship. From
his tee shots to his putting, Morris never wavered carding five birdies and zero bogeys. He headed to the final round two shots behind Dave Carich, but
his 5-under-par, 65 today gave him the title. He finished the tournament with a
36-hole total of 7-under-par, 133.

“I
haven’t been playing very well this past month and my short game has really
been letting me down,” said Morris of Gray Eagle GC. “I worked on my chipping and putting last
week and my putting really started clicking for me. Once I started feeling confident over five
and six footers, the rest of my game seemed to fall into place.”

Although Morris finished
first in this event he did not sign up to qualify for the 2014 Senior PGA National Professional Championship (PNC). Morris plans to visit his daughter in Paris that same week,
leaving the four qualifying spots open to the rest of the field.

“I have qualified for the
Senior National Championship a few times before, but honestly it means so much to me
just to win this event,” Morris said. “I
enter these events and never really expect to win, but I kept it together,
grinded it out, and I’m psyched.”

Dave Carich of Harbour
Trees GC qualified for the second year in a row for the Senior PNC, which will be held November 13-16 in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Cary Hungate of Kokomo CC, Bill Schumaker of Crooked Lake GC, and John Dalcorobbo of Brickyard Crossing GC filled the remaining three qualifying spots.
