More Senior Success for Schumaker at Harbour Trees

May 9, 2011

In 2009, Bill Schumaker asserted his position as the top
senior professional by winning the PGA Senior Professionals Championship at
Harbour Trees GC by a wide five-shot margin. This week at Harbour Trees, he is
attempting to dominate the senior amateurs as well at the PGA Senior Open.
After an opening round, 3-under-par 68, he holds a three stroke lead over Tim
Miller (a), Sam Till (a), Quinn Griffing, and Bob Rothgeb. Schumaker has
claimed two previous Senior Open titles as well as eight Pepsi PGA Senior
Player of the Year honors, but his fellow competitors have quite the resumes as
well. Till won the 2009 Senior Open, Griffing has received two Senior Player of
the Year awards, and Miller has won two Senior Amateur titles.

The day began with a field of 124, but a cut was made after
18 holes. The 65 players who scored 81 or better advanced to the final day.
