Miller Wins Senior Amateur on Home Course; McMullen Grabs Super-Senior Title

Aug 7, 2020

It was a beautiful two days at Kokomo Country Club for the IGA Senior/Super-Senior Championship.  Heading into the final round, Steve Norris, Carmel, had the lead at 3-under-par.  As the day progressed, home course advantage came into play as Tim Miller of Kokomo made moves playing two groups ahead.

Miller began today’s round at 1-over-par, but climbed his way to the top of the leaderboard with a 5-under-par, 65 today, for a 36-hole total of 4-under-par, 136.

“I’m 73 years old, so I played pretty well for me,” said Miller.  “I wasn’t too happy yesterday, but was proud of how I played today."

Miller’s round consisted of six birdies and only one bogey today.  He finished the round with a birdie on the par-4, 18th at his home course to win by one shot over Bob Jacobs of Valparaiso.

“It makes it a little easier playing at home,” said Miller.  “You know where the ball is supposed to be and it definitely helps with reading the greens a little better.”

This is Miller’s third Senior Amateur win, with previous victories coming in ’04 and ’05.

“It’s very gratifying because I haven’t been playing in tournaments for a long time, so I was surprised,” said Miller.  “It’s a lot of fun playing competitively because I’ve known these guys for years.”

In the Super-Senior Division, Jerry McMullen took home the title with a 36-hole total of 5-over-par, 145.  He won by two shots over Greg McCall of Indianapolis.
