Match Play Update – Day 2

Jul 22, 2015

Defending Champion Evan Stoker, Richmond, was knocked out of the opening round of the IGA Match Play Championship this morning at Harrison Lake CC.  Austin Carmack, Newburgh, defeated Stoker in 21 holes after barely qualifying for match play during yesterday’s round.

After finishing in a tie yesterday, Carmack made birdie on his opening playoff hole to claim the 32nd seed. Unfortunately his hot streak burnt out this afternoon, losing to Casey Deal, Bloomington, in a 3 and 2 fashion.  Deal will play Broden Chapman, Mooresville, in tomorrow morning’s quarter finals.

Joining Deal and Chapman in the quarter finals is Vince Drahman, Noblesville, who played tremendously this morning winning his match 8 and 6.  Drahman will play Josh Oldham, Greenwood, tomorrow morning.

Indiana Open Champion, Timothy Hildebrand of Carmel is also in the running for the Match Play Title.  Hildebrand knocked out Derek Kundenreich, Yorktown, this morning in 19 holes and went on to defeat Zach Gurtner, Bremen, 2 and 1.  Hildebrand will face William Smith, Bloomington, tomorrow.

Patrick Kundenreich, Yorktwon, will face Zach Carrabine, Bargersville, during the quarter finals.  Both players posted 5 and 4 victories this afternoon to get into the round of 8.

In the Senior Division, Defending Champion Gordie Rees, Albany, looks for a repeat.  Rees knocked out Dave Vlasic, Valparaiso, this morning with a 1-up finish and went on to defeat Tim Sparks, Milan, 3 and 2.  Rees will face Skip Runnels of Richmond, the 2013 IGA Senior Player of the Year, during tomorrow morning’s Semi Finals.

Also in the Semi Finals in the Senior Division is Dave Williamson, Crawfordsville, and Chuck Wenning of Franklin.

The final match is set for the Super-Seniors.  David Bates of Newburgh defeated Bill Bogdan, Indianapolis, 7 and 6 this morning to secure hi spot in the final match.  He went on to play Rick Miracle, Gosport, this afternoon and won 2 and 1.

Bates will battle Greg Hardin, Greenwood, tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.  Hardin secured his spot in the finals after knocking out Steve Paquin, Greencastle, 3 and 2 this morning and Jim Anthony, Franklin, 1-up thru 20 holes this afternoon.
