The completion of day one of the 117th Indiana Amateur Championship at The Hawthorns G.&C.C. finds two players tied atop the leaderboard at 3-under-par. Michael Makris posted his 3-under round in the first group of the day off the back nine, which included five birdies. Makris played in mostly calm conditions compared to what faced the afternoon wave of players with high winds making the already difficult course and slick greens even tougher. Despite the increased afternoon difficulty, Ben Resner matched Makris with a bogey-free round of 69 which included a perfect 10 out of 10 getting the ball up and down after missed greens.
Tuesday’s second round will see Makris play in the afternoon and Resner the morning as starting times are reversed prior to the field being cut to the low 60 players after round two. A host of players sit just behind the leaders, with Patrick Allgeier leading them one shot back.
