Long Time IGA Tournament Participant, Ted Smith, Tragically Passes Away

The Indiana Golf Association Family is deeply saddened by the passing of Ted Smith.  Ted was a frequent competitor in IGA events and a leading senior player in the country.
 
Ted graduated from Wilkinson High School and attended the University of Indianapolis. He was President and CEO of Smith Implements, Inc. He established Smith Implements with his parents in 1980, and worked alongside many family members through his career. He served in the Army for two years during the Vietnam War. His greatest passion was perhaps the game of golf. He achieved numerous golf awards locally and nationally and was a member of the Indiana Golf Association for several years.  He was a two-time Senior Amateur Champion ('01, '10) and a Senior Team Champion ('02). He was named Golfweek US Senior Player of the Year in 2009. He was Golfweek Player of the Year for the Super Senior Division in 2012, 2013, and 2014. He was an active member of the Society of Seniors Golf Association as a Board Member and frequent points leader.
 
Ted is survived by his wife, Beth, whom he married on March 21, 1970. He also is survived by his daughter, Julie (Justin) Moeller; and his son, Matthew Smith. He has five grandchildren whom he adored. Also surviving Ted are brothers, David Smith and Chris Smith; and sister, Terry Wheeler.
