The Indiana Junior Golf Program has acknowledged eight individuals as Players of the Year for their performance during the 2016 season. Players of the Year are recognized in male and female categories for Junior Program, Junior Tour and Prep Tour honors. This year’s awards include the first ever three-way tie for the Junior Program Girls Player of the Year honor. Players of the Year will be individually recognized at the annual Indiana Golf Hall of Fame Awards banquet at Hillcrest CC in Indianapolis on December 1, 2017.
Junior Program Players of the Year
Keegan Bronnenberg, Muncie
For the second consecutive year, Keegan Bronnenberg has been named the Indiana Junior Golf Program Boys Player of the Year. Bronnenberg won two Indiana Junior Golf events in 2016 with wins at the Masters Tour Championship and the Age Group Championship and also added a runner-up finish at the Indiana Junior PGA Championship. In addition to his junior golf season, Bronnenberg was the runner-up at the 116th Indiana Amateur Championship.
Alexis Miestowski, Schererville
Alexis Miestowski had two wins in the 2016 season, including the Hoosier Junior Championship, where she has now won back-to-back titles and the Northern Junior Masters. Miestowski was also the runner-up at the 66th Girls State Junior Championship.
Erica Shepherd, Greenwood
Erica Shepherd won the 66th Girls State Junior Championship in 2016, giving her back-to-back victories in the event. On a national level, Shepherd carded a top-20 finish at the Junior PGA National Championship and also advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Girl’s Junior Amateur Championship. In addition to her junior golf success, Shepherd became the first Indiana junior golfer in recent history to qualify for and compete in the U.S. Women’s Open at the age of 15.
Marissa Singer, Noblesville
Marissa Singer’s 2016 season included top-10 finishes in all Indiana Junior Golf events she competed, including a victory at the Age Group Championship. Singer added a runner-up finish at the Indiana Junior PGA Championship, a third place finish at the Masters Tour Championship and a sixth place finish at the 66th Girls State Junior Championship. In addition, she finished tied for 15th at the Indiana Women’s Amateur Championship.
Junior Tour Players of the Year
Peyton Snoeberger, Williamsport
In 2016, Peyton Snoeberger amassed five Junior Tour victories, including a playoff win at the Junior Tour Championship. Those wins, coupled with an additional runner-up finish, lead him to the Season Points Championship in the Boys 15-16 age division. In championship play, Snoeberger was the runner-up at the Age Group Championship and qualified for match play at the 91st Boys State Junior Championship. Snoeberger ended the season with back-to-back runner-up finishes in Fall Series events. He was the Prep Tour Player of the Year in 2012.
Brooke Moser, Leo
Brooke Moser won six Junior Tour events in 2016, including a victory at the Tour Championship, to become the Season Points Champion in the Girls 17-19 age division. In championship play, Moser added top-5 finishes at both the Indiana Junior PGA Championship and Hoosier Junior Championship. Additionally, Moser had a runner-up finish at the Northern Masters and sealed outright Junior Tour Player of the Year honors with a runner-up finish at the final Fall Series event of the season.
Prep Tour Players of the Year
AJ Agnew, Borden
AJ Agnew’s 2016 season saw him earn top-3 finishes in every Indiana Junior Golf Program event he played. Agnew had three Prep Tour victories, including a win at Forest Park GC where he made six birdies on the back nine. He also added two runner-up finished and a third place finish on the season. In championship play, Agnew added a victory at the Age Group Championship.
Madison Dabagia, Ft. Wayne
Madison Dabagia won her only Prep Tour event of the season in 2016, but won Player of the Year honors based on the strength of her championship event play. Dabagia won the Age Group Championship and was the youngest player to make the cut at both the 66th Girls State Junior Championship and Indiana Junior PGA Championship, where she carded a top-10 overall finish and won her age division.
