Hometown Favorite Tobi Herron Leads By Two at IWGA Indiana Golf Championship

Aug 2, 2014

Tobi Herron set the bar high today at her home course Otter
Creek GC during the opening round of the first annual IWGA Indiana Golf Championship. Herron of Columbus, Ind. fired a 4-under-par,
68 to claim a two-shot lead over Brooke Beegle heading to the final round tomorrow.

“I think I just had a
good ball striking day,” Herron said. “I
have been working on a few swing changes and they started to come together
today so that was nice. I was able to
stay in the moment and focus on the shot at hand. I’m proud of the way I played.”

Herron got off to a good start this morning with an opening
nine of 5-under-par, 31. Herron is a
three-time IWGA Mid-Amateur Champion and looks for a win at this new IWGA
event.

“I feel good about where I stand,” Herron said. “I still think I will have to play really
well tomorrow to have a chance. I’m a
pretty consistent player and I hope to stay focused tomorrow.”

Beegle looks for her second IWGA win tomorrow after posting a 2-under-par 70.

“My putting saved me today,” Beegle said.  “If I can keep my driver in play tomorrow, I should be in good shape.  I am happy with the position I am in and I look forward to tomorrow’s round.”

Madison’s Amanda Detmer and Greenwood’s Erica Shepherd
posted 1-under-par, 71s today and are currently tied for second.

Tee times will begin tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
