Henderson Grabs a 2 Shot Lead Heading into the Final Round of the IWGA Am

Jun 30, 2022

The first day of the IWGA State Amatuer at Delaware Country Club concluded with Cailyn Henderson of Westfield closing out the first round with a one stroke lead over Chestertons Elyse Stasil. Henderson was able to use this momentum going into day two, remaining in the lead for the first few holes, until 5x Champion, Julia Potter-Bobb of Indianapolis, quietly snuck up in the leaderboard with a 2-under par front nine.

Henderson and Potter-Bobb continued their head-to-head battle for a large portion of the back nine, but Henderson was able to pull through with an even back side, ultimately enough for her to keep the lead going into the final round.

“I shot the same score today, so my round felt very similar. My driver off the tee got me in a little bit of trouble and I ended up punching out of a lot of trees today, but my putter was good and I was making a lot of good par saves” said Henderson.

Henderson does not seem to be phased with the decorated champion on her trail, adding “I’m going in with the same game plan as I would if she hadn’t won previously”.

Potter-Bobb closed out even, 71 giving her the sole runner-up spot and the lowest round of the day without any three-putts.

“The thing about this course is that it keeps me on my toes. Even though I am two back anything can happen, even if someone is four back, so I think that will be the most interesting component about tomorrow. With this course, big numbers can pop up at any time and it's just managing your expectations and managing the shots to see what happens” said Potter-Bobb.
