Golf Office Duo Play 108 Holes For Charity

Sep 4, 2013

For the fourteenth consecutive year, Indiana Golf Office Executive
Director, Mike David, and Tournament Director, Todd DeHaven, completed their
annual Playing Marathon to raise money for The Indiana Golf Foundation and The
First Tee of Indiana. The pair completed 108 holes at Harrison Lake Country
Club in Columbus. Their efforts will raise over $13,000 for the IGF and The
First Tee of Indiana.

“We used to do 10 rounds in one day so only playing six is really
pretty easy,” said DeHaven. “The weather this year was perfect. When we played
10 rounds you had to play mid-summer in order to have enough daylight and we
had some really hot days.”

The pair, who played golf together at Ball State University, always
have some friendly side bets to keep the day interesting. “We pretty much putt
everything out,” said David. “We are way too competitive to give the other guy
much of a break.”

Now that the Indiana Golf Foundation has taken over administrative
responsibilities for The First Tee of Indiana, fundraising has become even more
important. The First Tee of Indiana currently has programming being offered in
Indianapolis and Richmond but will soon add four additional communities around
the state. By the end of 2014 the goal is to have The First Tee programming in
at least 10 Indiana communities.

“We are excited to have The First Tee of Indiana under our umbrella but
it has created more of a need for annual fundraising dollars,” said David. “The
Marathon is just a small part of what we are trying to do on an annual basis.
What the Marathon does do for us is provide some exposure for the various
junior golf programs we are offering.”
