Fox and Hansan Win Four Ball in Playoff

May 2, 2015

Matt Fox, Indianapolis, and Paul Hansan, Fishers, birdied the 18th hole today to force a playoff with teammates Kenny Cook and Joe Mahurin of Noblesville during the final round of the IGA Four Ball Championship at Bear Slide GC.  The teams headed to the par-4, 1st for the playoff, and it was Fox who pulled through, sinking his fifteen footer from the fringe for the win.

“We thought we had to birdie both 17 and 18 to win,” Fox said.  “We had a feeling that 10-under would be the number today and that we needed to act quickly if we wanted to have a chance.  When we birdied 18 we thought we had finished second.”

Fox and Hansan headed to the final round with a three shot lead, which they quickly saw slip away as they headed to the back nine.  However, the duo was able to hang on just long enough, making a clutch putt on the par-4, 18th to tie for first.

“I play with Kenny and Joe all the time at Sagamore so I know how good they are and that they woulnd’t let up,” Hansan said.  “Matt and I played well the last couple of days and I’m happy we were able to pull it off.”

Fox and Hansan both recently lost their fathers, and teaming up in this event meant a lot to them.

“It was great being able to play with Matt,” Hansan said.  “Having both of our fathers pass away last month was definitely hard, so this wins really means a lot to us.  We made a great team!”

Dave Richter and Colin Terry of Indianapolis finished third at 8-under-par.
