Five Make Match Play

Sep 14, 2009

Once again Indiana’s senior amateurs proved how competitive they are on the national scene. At the US Senior Amateur Championship being held at Beverly Country Club in Chicago, Ill., this week, all five qualifiers from Indiana made the top 64 for match play. This is the most of any state. Sam Till, Dave Williamson, Bill Barnes, Randy Nichols and Mike Bell all made the cut.

Bell earned the 3-seed position after qualifying rounds of 73-68=141. Barnes fired 74-72=146 for 20th seed, and Nichols took 32nd position after carding 76-72=148. Stroke play rounds of 78-72=150 ranked Till 52nd, and Williamson rounded out the group at 75-75=150 as the 55th seed.

In the first round of matches, Bell, Till and Nichols advanced. Till advanced to the Round of 16 and Bell made it to the quarterfinals.
