Fast Start for McLeod

Aug 3, 2015

Hartley McLeod of Sycamore Hills GC grabbed the lead today at Brickyard Crossing GC during the opening 36-holes of the Indiana PGA Assistants Championship.  McLeod posted a 3-under-par, 69 this morning and paired it with a 2-under-par, 70 this afternoon for a total of 5-under-par, 139.

“My wedges were really good today,” McLeod said.  “I struggled a little bit with my full shots but my short game definitely saved me.”

McLeod looks for his third Indiana PGA victory tomorrow (previous wins at the Southern Open and Monticello Open) and for his first opportunity to qualify for a national event.

“It would mean a lot to me if I were able to qualify for the National Assistant Championship,” McLeod said.  “If I can keep my wedge game under control, I should have a pretty good chance.”

John DalCorobbo of Brickyard Crossing trails by one.  DalCorobbo posted a 4-under-par, 68 this morning, which he paired with an even par 72 this afternoon.  He is currently 4-under-par.

“It’s an advantage knowing what lines to hit and where you can miss to still be able to get up-and-down,” DalCorobbo said.  “In the morning I hit the ball really well and felt good about my 68.  This afternoon was a bit more of a struggle, but I’m happy with where I stand.”

Dalcorobbo has competed in 14 Professional National Championships and finished third at the ’93 National Assistants Championship.

Michael Asbell of Woodland CC is currently third at 2-under-par.

The National Assistants Championship will be contested October 29 through November 1 in Port St. Lucie, Fla. at The Wanamaker GC.

The top three finishers this week will advance to the National Championship.
