Fair Gains Momentum Heading into Final Round of State Open

Jul 10, 2013

After
firing an opening round of 67 at the Indiana Open Championship, Brownsburg’s
Seth Fair never relinquished his lead. Despite pressure from Tyler Duncan, who
began day two with a share of the lead, Fair never seemed phased. He carded a
5-under-par 67 again today and is 11-under-par for the tournament.

“I had a
good stretch of holes heading into the back nine,” Fair said. “I birdied 7, 8, and 9 and until then I wasn’t
really able to get things going. It felt
good to finish the front nine like that and it made me confident heading into
the back.”

Fair’s round
consisted of 6 birdies coming on the par 4, 7th, the par 4, 8th,
the par 5, 9th, the par 5, 11th, the par 4, 14th,
and the par 5, 16th. He only
carded one bogey today coming on the par 3, 15th. Fair has a comfortable four shot lead over
Noblesville’s Eric Steger.

“I feel
good,” Fair said. “No lead is too big
but I’m glad I put myself in this position.
I have played well the last three days and just need to do more of the
same tomorrow. Eric played a really good
round today and I’m going to need to come out ready to compete tomorrow.”

Steger, the
State Am Champion in ’10, fired a 3-under-par 69 today, which puts him at
7-under-par for the tournament. Fair and
Steger will play in the final group tomorrow along with Muncie’s Chase Wright,
who is currently at 2-under-par overall.

Four other
players are tied with Wright for third including: Carmel’s Tony Lazzara,
Vincennes’ Adam Schenk, Fishers’ Rob Johnson, and Columbus’ Tyler Duncan.

Defending
Champion, Stephen Conrad is eleven shots back at even par.
