Defending Champion and Stroke Play Medalist Knocked Out of Senior Match Play

Aug 28, 2013

Monitcello’s Ron
Carter barely grabbed the 16th seed yesterday at the IGA Senior Match Play
Championship held at Delaware CC, but did not let that affect his play
today. Carter faced number one seed and Defending Champion Sam Till this
morning and defeated him 3 and 2, proving anything can happen in match
play.

Carter went on to face Albany’s Gordie Rees this afternoon and his winning streak was short-lived as Rees defeated him 3 and 2.

Stroke
play medalist and number two seed Ted Smith of Wilkinson defeated
Elwood’s Carl Hobbs this morning, but like Carter he also did not have
luck on his side this afternoon.  Indianapolis’ Tom Perry was able to
defeat Smith 2 and 1 and will advance to tomorrow’s Semi-Finals.

Joining Rees and Perry in the Semi-Finals is
Valparaiso’s Dave Vlasic who knocked out Tim Kuzma, a member here at
Delaware CC.  Vlasic defeated Kuzma 3 and 2 this afternoon.  Richmond’s Skip Runnels will also advance to the Semi-Finals after defeating Steve Coyne of Carmel 4 and 3.

Rees will face Vlasic and Perry will face Runnels tomorrow morning.  Matches will begin at 9 a.m.
