Crowded Leaderboard at Women’s Am

Jul 17, 2013

70 was a popular score today at the Women’s State Amateur
Championship held at Harbour Trees GC in Noblesville. Greenwood’s Anna Gleixner was the first
player to finish at 1-under-par, and was shortly followed by Noblesville’s
Haley Kluth, Carmel’s Brianna Midkiff, Indianapolis’ Molly Ward, and Anderson’s
Morgan Nadaline.

Kluth and Nadaline, both rising seniors in high school,
currently share the lead with three college players.

“I almost had a hole in one on 18,” said Kluth. “I was
sticking it close on most of the par 3s today and I kept the ball in the
fairway off the tee. I hope to go out
and do the same tomorrow and just have fun and try not to worry too much about
my score”

Midkiff, a soon-to-be sophomore at the University of Iowa,
had an eagle today which helped her achieve a 1-under-par finish and share of
the lead.

“I got on in two on my second hole of the day, the par 5, 11th
and I made the putt for eagle,” Midkiff said.
“I played well overall but I felt like I left a lot of shots out there. I plan on staying patient tomorrow and
letting things fall into place.”

Amongst the leaders is a Girls State Junior Champion
(Nadaline) and an IWGA Match Play Runner-up (Midkiff).

Ashley Kees, a rising junior at the University of Memphis is
just one shot back after firing an even par 71.
