Crowded Leaderboard at Senior Am

Sep 4, 2014

Mike Bell, Gary EuDaly, and Chuck Wenning posted even-par
72s to take the lead today at Meshingomesia CC during round one of the IGA Senior
Amateur Championship. Indianapolis̢ۉ㢠Bell
is looking for his third Senior Am title tomorrow.

“I havenâ€â„¢t played this course since the 1979 State Open,â€Â Bell
said. “There is a lot of local knowledge
that comes with Meshingomesia and the par-3s are key. I played consistently today, with three
birdies and three bogeys.â€Â

Being in the lead is a position that Bell is used to. If Bell is able to win tomorrow, he will join
Jerry Jackson as the only three-time winner of the event.

“I have been in this position before and I donâ€â„¢t get as
nervous as I used to,â€Â Bell said. “I
just try to hit good shots and let things happen.â€Â

EuDaly of Bloomington says that good par saves kept him in
contention today.

“I got-up-and down
several times to save par and I putted really well. I was tied for the lead a few years back at
the Mid-Am, and I like being in this position.
I hope to keep the ball in play tomorrow and continue to make putts.â€Â

Wenning of Franklin is also excited to share the lead. His round consisted of four birdies and four
bogeys.

“I kept the ball in play and kept my approach shots below
the hole on tricky greens,â€Â Wenning said.
“I hope to continue the same methodical plod tomorrow. Being in the lead is uncharted territory
for me and it is honestly really exciting.â€Â

Montereyâ€â„¢s George Wamsley leads the Super Senior Field by
three after posting a 1-over-par, 73.
Last week Wamsley finished second at the IGA Super Senior Match Play
Championship.

“I decided to tee off with a 3-wood all day because this
course is very tight and that worked in my favor,â€Â Wamsley said. “I also made several putts around ten feet to
save par. If I were able to win
tomorrow, it would be very special to me.â€Â
