Back Nine Propels Prall to State Am Title

Jun 22, 2022

Carmel’s Luke Prall went into the final round of the Indiana State Amateur at the Dye Course at

French Lick four strokes behind Noah Gillard, who was looking for his third straight State Am

win. Trailing the two-time Champion did not seem to significantly impact Prall’s mindset and

actually might have eliminated some of the pressure for the last round.

“I figured that I would probably be out of contention after the front nine, so it honestly took off a

little bit of pressure and I was able to kind of just go at the pins” said Prall.

The “nothing to lose” mindset was easy to see on Prall’s back nine, where he made five birdies

to cap off a come from behind victory.

The tournament lead fluctuated throughout the day between Gillard, Brett Widner, and Drew

Wrightson. Meanwhile, Prall was quietly climbing the leaderboard. Birdies on 14 and 15

propelled him into the lead, adding two pars and a clutch birdie on 18, that was enough to seal the Victory.

Prall will be entering his Sophmore year at Purdue University this Fall.

Wrightson’s final round, 71 gave him the sole runner-up position on a day that saw only 4

players break par.

“I tried to take it one hole at a time and just kept telling myself that if we get hot, we get hot, and

we got some birdies. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish the way I wanted to but I’ll still take it” said

Wrightson.
