Age Group Championship Finishes Strong

Jul 2, 2014

Plymouth – Two days, two golf courses, and two rounds of competition for 350 junior golfers.

Sounds impossible, right?

The
Indiana Golf Foundation does it every year for its Age Group
Championship.  The largest one day junior tournament in the state, the
Age Group draws juniors, 10-18 years of age, from across the state.
This year the masses converged on Indiana National Golf Course at Swan
Lake Resort, June 25-26.

Spread over two 18 hole golf courses at Indiana National GC, kids are divided by age and play both tracks during the tournament.
In his tenth year as Indiana Junior Golf Director, Ryan Lambert admits it is no small feat pulling off an event of this size.

“By
far, the Age Group are the most challenging two days of our summer,”
said Lambert.  “It takes the collective efforts of our entire junior
tournament staff and the staff at Indiana National to pull this event
off.”

Their commitment to running a great event is evident when talking to the kids who participate.

Asif
Khan of Wabash said his favorite part was playing golf while Braden
Estes, Fishers, really enjoyed being able to play golf with his
friends.

Chad Hutsell, PGA
Professional at Indiana National GC, says hosting juniors from the state
of Indiana is what drives him each year.

“It’s fun to be around the kids and it’s a great couple of days,? said Hutsell.

He added that while it’s not easy preparing for an event like this, he
feels the course took great steps toward preparation and was very
pleased with how it finished.
