A Long Time Coming

Jul 30, 2012

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Avon’s Jeff Schroeder claimed his first section win this afternoon at the Indiana PGA Tournament Series presented by Pepsi/Club Car at Pine Valley Country Club. Schroeder fired an impressive two-under par 68 to share the lead with Monticello’s Jim Ousley.

“I got off to a good start,” said Schroeder, who works for the Greg Norman Collection. “I birdied number 2 and I hit every green on the back nine,” he added.
After all the scores were in, Schroeder and Ousley were forced into a sudden death playoff to settle the tie.
On the par 4, 1st hole, both Schroeder and Ousley found the tree line off the tee.

Schroeder hit his approach shot first with a high shot clearing the trees, but his ball landed hard on the firm green, leaving him just over the back and in the rough.

Ousley played next with a low punch shot, which he landed just short of the green, but he was also unable to stop it, and was left with a similar chip shot.

Ousley hit a decent chip to three feet, giving himself a good look at par.
Schroeder’s lie looked like it might be difficult to stop the ball once it hit the green, but his soft touch led to a chip-in birdie and his first section win.
“I’ve been a member of the section for 31 years and this is my first win,” said Schroeder. “I hit a good chip and knew it would be close, but definitely had some good luck,” he added.
Schroeder walked away with a $2000 grand prize.
