Michael Ahlers of Pine Valley CC fired a 3-under-par, 67 today at Kokomo CC at Tournament Series #2 sponsored by Club Car and 2 UNDR. Ahlers finished in a tie with Zach Fahmie of Crooked Stick and won in a playoff for his first section win.
“Today I discovered something that hasn’t been here all year,” Ahlers said. “Everything was clicking today and I hit 17 greens.”
Ahlers carded five birdies today coming on holes 6, 7, 9, 11 and 17. His only mishap of the day came on the par-3, 8th where he made double bogey.
“Overall it was a great day and I got to play with two great guys,” Ahlers said. “I’ve come close to winning an Indiana PGA event before, but have never been able to finish it off. The victory feels great and I’m really excited about it.”
Ahlers and Fahmie played the par-4, 1st for the playoff, where Ahlers made par to Fahmie’s bogey.
There was a four-way tie for fourth at 1-under-par, 69. This included Brett Melton, CC of Old Vincennes, Michael Asbell, Woodland CC, Jim Ousley, Monticello and Fred Mattingly, Golf Galaxy.
Our first Indiana PGA Tournament Series event of the season was cancelled due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for August 11th at Hillview CC.
