Last year’s Indiana Section PGA Player of the Year, Brett
Melton of the Country Club of Old Vincennes, proved he is ready for another
successful year of Indiana golf. Melton
fired a 3-under-par 69 today at Prairie View GC at the first Tournament Series
event of the season presented by Club Car and The PGA Tour. His 3-under-par finish was enough for a two
shot victory.

“I hit the ball solid and I putted well today,” Melton
said. “It feels great to get off to a
good start this season.”

Melton carded six birdies today coming on the par-4, 2nd,
the par-3, 6th, the par-3, 12th, the par-5, 13th,
the par-4, 16th, and the par-5 18th.

“I made a double on 17, after hitting a bad bunker shot, but
overall I can’t complain with how I played today,” Melton said.

Melton has been known to play well in Tournament Series
events, with two runner-up finishes and one victory in the three-event series last
season.

“There are so many good players in this section and it feels
good to start off the season with some player of the year points,” Melton
said. “If you get an early lead it takes
some of the pressure off for the rest of the year. It always feels good to win an event.”

There was a six-way tie for second including: Michale Asbell
(Harbour Trees GC), Brian Brodell (Birck Boilermaker GC), Glenn Hudson (Dick’s
Sporting Goods), Rob Knuckles (Dick’s Sporting Goods), Jeff Marsh (Brookwood
GC), and Hartley McLeod (Bridgewater GC).
