5X IWGA Amateur Champion, Potter-Bobb Closes Out the Second Round With a Three Stroke Lead

Jul 20, 2023

The second round of the IWGA Amateur at Otter Creek Golf Club closed out with Indianapolis’s Julia Potter-Bobb snagging a three stroke lead going into the final day (-6). Potter-Bobb finished day one 2-under par, 70 one stroke behind Fountaintown’s Annaliese Fox.

Potter-Bobb pared the first four holes of today’s round and then made some crucial moves, birdieng holes 5, 8, 11, 15, and 16 which was enough to finish her round 4-under par (68) and with a 3 stroke lead for the final round.

Potter-Bobb is no stranger to being high up on the leaderboard and has actually been crowned as the IWGA Amateur Champion five times, closing out last year in second.

“For me and on this course in particular, I know that the three-stroke lead doesn’t matter. What matters is that I stay aggressive with my shots, my play making, and that I stay smart out there” said Potter-Bobb.

Potter- Bobb added “I am just kind of focusing on a stronger start tomorrow and to really ease myself in. My biggest struggle is just being comfortable out there but that’s one of the reasons I have my husband on the bag. He grew up out here and he knows the course. So it’s nice to have someone back up your thoughts on putts and everything like that. I know that his knowledge out here is second to none so to have that comfort is really important”.

Close on her tail is Plainfield’s Kayla Benge who had a bogey free round today of 3-under par, 69. Benge finished round one at an even 70 and made sure to stay just as consistent today but with some impressive birdies under her sleeve.

“I have kind of freed up in the way I have been playing and honestly I am just going with the flow. It’s not like I don’t miss-hit shots out there but I am staying patient and letting things come to me. I am just going to stay patient and let my game do its thing tomorrow and if it’s enough to win, then it’s enough to win and if it’s not, I’ll be happy with the way I’ve been playing” said Benge.
