Dyer’s Terry Werner held on just long enough today at the
Indiana PGA Senior Open at Morris Park CC presented by Yamaha – Golf Cars
+. Werner began the day with a two-shot
lead over Quinn Griffing of Donald Ross GC, but as the day progressed Ted Kaperak
proved to be Werner’s biggest competition.
Kaperak carded a 1-under-par 69 today and finished the tournament at
2-over-par.
Meanwhile, Werner saw himself at 2-over-par, also, with just
two holes left to play. Werner hit his
approach shot close on the par 4, 17th hole and made his birdie putt
to get back to 1-over-par.
“I started hitting the ball better on the last six holes,”
Werner said. “But I have to admit I
still felt a little nervous on 18 because I knew I needed a par to win.”
With an easy two-putt par on 18, Werner captured his first
Senior Open victory.
“It feels terrific,” Werner said. “This was a great field with so many good
players. It feels good to see that all
of my hard work paid off. I feel pretty
accomplished.”
Griffing finished alone in third at 3-over-par.
