U Indy Players Face Off in IGA Match Play Championship Finals

Jul 24, 2014

University of Indianapolis incoming freshman Zach Gurtner
came into this week with no expectations.
But after a week of solid play at The Legends GC, Gurtner finds himself
in the IGA Championship Match against his soon-to-be teammate Evan Stoker.

“I’ve been having a blast for the past two days,” said
Gurtner of Bremen, Ind. “I have just
tried to stay consistent and not get down when I hit bad shots. If I were able to win tomorrow it would be
amazing. I never expected to be in this
position when I signed up for this event.
It would be a big confidence boost.”

Stoker of Richmond, Ind. also says a win this week would
give him a lot of confidence heading into his sophomore year at U Indy.

“I have been playing well the past couple of days,” Stoker
said. “I look at all of these events as
great preparation for college tournaments and a win here would be huge.”

Gurtner defeated Wes Bowman during the quarterfinals this
morning 3 & 1, and went on to defeat Joshua Oldham this afternoon with a 1
up finish. Stoker won both of his
matches with a 3 & 2 victory. This
morning he defeated Christopher Heck and this afternoon Preston Smith.

Gurtner and Stoker will face one another in the finals tomorrow
at 7:30 a.m.
