Two High School Seniors Advance to Match Play Quarterfinals

Jul 23, 2014

After a three hour rain delay at The Legends GC, the opening
round of matches were completed. High school
senior Zach Schroeder defeated Defending Champion Brodie Williams 4 & 2
this morning, sinking Williams’ hopes of a repeat. Schroeder of Lebanon, Ind. went on to win his
second match of the day against Indiana University’s Andrew Havill. Schroeder defeated Havill 2-up and advanced
to the quarter finals.

Jake Brown, Tyler Davis, and Zach Gurtner shared medalist
honors during yesterday’s qualifying round after firing 4-under-par 68s. Brown of Carmel, Ind. got off to a good start
this morning defeating Austin Winings 4 & 2, but fell short this afternoon
losing in extra holes to high school senior Christopher Heck.

“I’m excited with how
well I am playing,” Heck said. “I am
really looking forward to tomorrow. I
hope to continue to hit fairways and greens and make putts when I need to. You have to be mentally tough during match
play, so that is my goal for tomorrow.”

Tyler Davis and Zach Gurtner also had success today. Gurtner of Bremen, Ind. defeated Mike Walls
1-up this morning and went on to defeat Brooks Snyder this afternoon 2-up to advance
to the quarter finals. Davis of Fishers,
Ind. was a part of the closest match as well as the biggest victory today. Davis defeated Patrick Kundenreich 1-up in 23
holes this morning. He then faced Graham
McAree late this afternoon and walked away with a 6 & 5 finish.

The quarterfinal matches will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00
a.m. Those matches are as follows: Zach
Schroeder vs. Joshua Oldham, Zach Gurtner vs. Wes Bowman, Christopher Heck vs.
Evan Stoker, and Tyler Davis vs. Preston Smith.
