Tibbets Comes From Behind to Win IN PGA Women’s State Open

Jul 21, 2022

The 2022 Indiana PGA Women’s State Open has concluded at Coyote Crossing with Lauren Tibbets coming out victorious in West Lafayette.

Tibbets started the day 5 strokes off the lead, but quickly erased that deficit by birdieing her first 3 holes. She stumbled on 10 and 13 with bogeys but secured her win, with a clutch chip in on hole 16. “On that shot, I hit the spot and the shot that I was trying to hit. It just happened to drop” Tibbets said.

Tibbets hasn't played in this event for a couple of years but was happy to find time in her busy professional golf schedule to play in the event. “This is really, really cool,” Tibbets said. “I won as an amateur in ‘17 at the Players Club, so it’s really cool to win it as an amateur and a professional.”

Tibbits attributes her momentum today to the overall atmopshere of the event, saying "We had great competition and great female professionals so it means a lot to win it”.

First round leader Sabrina Bonanno finished with a 76 today, good enough for second place. Julia Potter-Bobb was the low amateur of the tournament with an even par for both days. Thanks to Coyote Crossing for being a great host!
