The First Tee of Indiana Joins the National #GivingTuesday Movement to Encourage Spending With a Purpose

Nov 6, 2013

Franklin, Ind. –
The First Tee of Indiana has joined #GivingTuesday, a first of its kind effort
that will harness the collective power of a unique blend of partners –
charities, families, businesses and individuals – to transform how people think
about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Holiday and
the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday will inspire people
to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in
better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a
better world. Taking place December 3,
2013 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – #GivingTuesday will harness the power
of social media to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and
Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday
shopping.

The First Tee of
Indiana has joined #GivingTuesday to celebrate the generosity of Hoosiers who
not only love the game of golf but who also understand the importance of
providing quality programs for Indiana youth.
The First Tee is an international nonprofit organization which provides
educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and
promote healthy choices through the game of golf. First Tee Programs are currently conducted in
Indianapolis, Richmond, Columbus, Blomington, Michiana and South Central
Indiana and funded solely through the generosity of corporations and individual
donors around the state.

“#GivingTuesday offers The First Tee of
Indiana an opportunity to tell our story to a new audience,” said Mike David,
Executive Director, The First Tee of Indiana.
“We want Hoosiers to know there are many ways to support our program in
addition to cash; in-kind contributions like golf clubs, golf bags, and golf
balls also are necessary to our success.
Additionally, we have thousands of junior golfers who participate in our
programs around the state, most who are extremely active on social media, and
#GivingTuesday is a great way to teach kids the holiday giving season should
include community giving as well.”

Over the next
month, The First Tee of Indiana will help raise awareness of #GivingTuesday
through social media and email campaigns, encouraging its supporters to join
this unique call to action and give back.
