Carmel, IN (May 10) – The Senior Amateur Team Championship concluded its second round at Plum Creek Golf Club on Friday evening, with the dynamic duo of Jeff Cook and John Fisher emerging as the triumphant victors.
With a stellar performance that left them 16 shots under par, Cook and Fisher showcased their skill and synergy, in a finish with five consecutive birdies on the final stretch.
Reflecting on their victory, Cook shared, “Starting off the round, I didn’t hit my best tee shot, John didn’t hit his best tee shot either, but after that we ham and egged it pretty good.”
Making a bogey on the first hole, the team did not see another for the day. By the time Fisher and Cook made it to the back nine, they were right in the weeds with two other teams who were around nine under par.
On hole 13, the duo began to assess the field and their play.
“One of us said, ‘Hey let’s make a birdie’ and we did. Then we just kept rolling with it all the way to the house,” recalled Fisher.
The Cook/Fisher tandem concluded the round with a score of -16, sealing their victory.
For Fisher, a seasoned competitor and the 1980 IGA State Amateur Champion, this victory marked a triumphant return to Indiana Golf events after 41 years.
Round Highlight

Amidst the competition, the tournament witnessed a moment of magic on the ninth hole, as Pat O’Connor delivered an unforgettable shot. With an easy swing of his 6-iron, O’Connor achieved a rare feat: a hole-in-one, his fourth career ace but first during a tournament.
“It went in on the fly, there was someone on the chipping green who turned around and noticed,” O’Connor said.
Players often get nervous hitting the flagstick from the tee box, as the ball is bound to ricochet and be in a less than desirable spot. Luckily this was not the case for O’Connor.
“There was no ball mark on the green, it flew right into the hole and stayed there.”
