Team Kokomo/Tipton and Team Carmel to Represent Indiana in the PGA JLG Mideast Regional Championship this Weekend

Sep 29, 2015

On October 3rd and 4th, Team Kokomo/Tipton and Team Carmel will represent Indiana at the PGA Junior League Mideast Regional Championship at NCR CC in Dayton, Ohio.

Team Kokomo/Tipton, coached by Marc Goodier, won the PGA JLG North Championship at Swan Lake Resort after defeating Hamilton County East 7 to 5 and Chesterton 2 11 to 1.  This win earned them a spot in the Regional Championship.

“It means a great deal to the kids,” Goodier said.  “They enjoy the spirited competition and camaraderie they’ve developed with their teammates.  Our goal is to go all the way to Nationals.”

Team Carmel, coached by Paul Kim, won the South Championship at Hillview CC, knocking out Indy 1 9.5 to 2.5 and then finishing in a tie with the Legends 6 to 6.  It took a playoff to settle the Championship and Carmel came out on top, winning 13 holes to 8 holes.

“Our team could not be more honored to represent Indiana at the Mideast Regional Championship,” Kim said.  “If there was one word or phrase to describe our juniors it would be gym-rats.  Most of the season they are at the course from sun-up to down-down.”

The eight regional champions from each qualifier will advance to compete in the PGA Junior League Golf Championship. The 2015 PGA Junior League Championship will be hosted November 5-8, at Disney’s Palm Course, located within the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

“Every day, I learn new things as a coach,” Kim said.  “Keep it fun and the winning comes, that’s my motto!”
