Strong Showing at US Senior Am

Indiana qualifiers overall had a successful week at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Fla., October 2-7 at the US Senior Amateur Championship. Six players qualified for match play, and IGA Senior Player of the Year Randy Nichols of Brookville earned the 3rd seed. He was defeated in the Round of 16. Dave Williamson of Ladoga also held on until the Round of 16 as the 9th seed. Terry Werner of Dyer qualified in 14th but lost his second match. Tim Miller of Kokomo qualified 22nd but lost in the quarter-finals to the eventual runner-up. Skip Runnels of Richmond qualified 50th but lost in the first round. And Dave Bates of Newburgh qualified in 55th and was defeated in the first round by the eventual champion, Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C.

Other players from Indiana who made the trip to Florida included 2006 US Senior champion Mike Bell of Indianapolis who finished T103, Bill Barnes of Carmel who finished T126, and David Brown of Terre Haute who finished T134.
