Jun 7, 2019

2018 Indiana PGA Player of the Year, Chris Smith grabs his third win of the season today at the Indiana PGA Senior Open held at his home course, Rock Hollow Golf Club.

“It was really fun having my parents follow me around today and other family and friends out there watching,” said Peru, Indiana resident Chris Smith.

Smith headed to the final round of the Senior Open with a two-shot lead over Craig Bowden, KBS Shafts, and Mike Bell, Carmel, and finished the tournament with six-shot victory.

“I played well the last couple of days and am really excited with the way things turned out,” said Smith.  “I really enjoy playing in Section events.  They give me a lot of playing opportunities and keep me sharp throughout the season.”

Smith’s carded four birdies during today’s round and posted a 36-hole total of 7-under-par, 137.  This win marks his third of the season with previous wins coming at the State Spring Pro-Am in French Lick and last week’s Indiana PGA Pro-Am also at Rock Hollow.

After today’s win, Smith’s summer is just beginning.  He plans to play in all Indiana Section events, with a goal of winning the Indiana Open Championship for the first time.  He will also be participating on a larger stage at the US Senior Open at Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana and the Senior Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St. Annes in Lancashire, England.

Craig Bowden was our Senior Open runner-up posting a 36-hole total of 1-under-par, 143, followed by Terry Werner, Dyer, Bob Jacobs, Valparaiso, and Mike O’Toole, Indianapolis, who tied for third at 2-over-par.
