A round of 31-35=66 at Harbour Trees September 9 was Bill Schumaker’s lowest competitive round of the year by two strokes and good enough to lead the field at the Indiana PGA Senior Professional Championship. Three consecutive birdies on the front started him off 3-under through four holes. He remained consistent and even had two opportunities at 17 and 18 for two more birdies, but his putter failed him. Scott Morris, who qualified for the 2009 US Senior Open at Crooked Stick Golf Club, sits three shots back in second.
The senior professionals are competing for five spots in the PGA Senior Professional National Championship. Play wraps up Thursday with 18 more holes of stroke play. Tee times begin at 8:30 a.m.
