Rubrecht and J. Crouch Lead at Senior, Super-Senior Ams

Sep 10, 2015

Playing in his first ever IGA event, Robin Rubrecht of Newburgh grabbed the lead this afternoon during the opening round of the IGA Senior Amateur Championship.  Rubrecht carded a 4-under-par, 68 at Prairie View GC in Carmel and leads by one over Indianapolis’ Bob Stephens.

“I’ve played in City Championships, but never in a state event,” Rubrecht said.  “I haven’t played with most of these guys out here, but from what I hear they’re some of the best seniors in the country.  It’s great to play with such a competitive field.”

Rubrecht said the course really set up for his game, carding five birdies coming on holes 3, 5, 7, 9 and 15.  His lone bogey of the day came on the par-4, 14th.

“I just played really steady today,” Rubrecht said.  “I hit a lot of greens and had some good up-and-down saves.  Playing a practice round yesterday really helped me prepare.”

In the Super-Senior division (also held at Prairie View GC), Jerry Crouch of Indianapolis leads the pack after posting a 1-under-par, 71.  Crouch looks for his first individual IGA victory.

“I chipped and putted very well today,” Crouch said.  “It was an enjoyable day and I played with a nice group.  Overall I had a great time.”

Crouch carded three birdies today coming on holes 3, 5 and 7.  He leads by two over Joe Hahn of Evansville.

“I’ve been competing against these guys for years and it feels great to be in contention,” Crouch said.  “I would be awesome to get a win.  I’m excited to have the opportunity.”
